Nakatsu Crematorium
The Hills of Winds Crematorium in Nakatsu was designed by the architect Fumihiko Maki in 1997. His work often explores the use of new materials and the fusion between Eastern and Western cultures. I was particularly inspired by the crematorium not only for it’s simplicity in design but also because of it’s use of light leading the mourners through the different stages of the funeral rite.

Whip Coral Shrimp
Always found clinging to whip coral and although quite common in the Indo-Pacific it’s always a nice subject to photograph as they often try and sneak around the back of the coral.
Tambja Nudibranch
Although this species is quite common they are a little bit more mobile and larger than a lot of Nudibranchs you see allowing me to easily capture a head shot.
Cuttlefish
Not much to say but I really love Cuttlefish, always keeping a keen eye on you and your movements, often great little subjects to photograph.
Cucumber Crab
The Sea Cucumber Crab (Lissocarcinus orbicularis) is a curious creature normally piggy backing on a sea cucumber but this time I noticed this one tucked deep into the cucumber’s rear end!
Long-Horned Cowfish
Coconut Octopus
The very special Coconut Octupus will take shells from your hand if you offer them and tuck themselves in. They have such personality.
Harlequin Shrimp
Have been wanting to see one of these crazy shrimps for some time now so was happy to see this one in Lembeh, Indonesia this year.
Thecacera Nudibranch
Was great to see this wee Nudibranch (Thecacera picta) munching on it’s favourite food, perched dead center.
Idiomysis
These are very, very small Mysids approx. 1mm and they move up and down very erratically so was happy to snap this shot of a ‘family’ of them.
Cornet Fish
Captured these beady eyes close to me as I was photographing a Nudibranch on the sea bed so I just had to whip the camera up and take a shot.
Chromodoris Nudibranch
This Chromodoris tinctoria was spotted motoring along an algae covered branch. I’m a bit partial to the patterning on these nudibranchs.
Juvenile Painted Frogfish
This juvenile Painted Frogfish (Antennarius pictus) was happy just to chill and have his photo taken…missed the yawning though.
Diving Boys IV
On a particular dive site in Greece I noticed some boys jumping off the cliffs into the shallows so I abandoned the dive and spent the hour or so sitting on the sea bed photographing them.
Diving Boys III

Yellow Coral Goby
These very sweet Yellow Coral Gobies (Paragobiodon xanthosoma) are very shy critters and are always darting off just before you’re about to hit the shutter.
Emperor Shrimp
An Emperor Shrimp doing what it does best, just hanging out on a nudibranch, the Chromodoris Kuniei
Flower Coral Filefish
Sponge Detail
I loved the details in this network of sponge tubules.
Jorunna Nudibranch
One of my favourite nudibranch, hanging out on some netting at about 5m.
Two-toned Pygmy Squid
The Two-toned Pygmy Squid, is a species of bobtail squid native to the Indo-Pacific, it can grow to a max size of about 20mm!
